A Nutty French Woman Production!
|
|
First on is
Claudine with some Fab Club announcements.
Dennis Holmes is
our MC for the day and our first Performer.
After some
reminiscing about old Sunday radio shows, he launches in to
“AIN’T MISBAVIN”, great
song with every one joining with some nice scat singing by Dennis at the end.
Song 2 is about the autumn months, one the many songs that Dennis has written
over the years,
every one claps and
shakes what ever comes to hand.

Next Performer is
Claudine after some chat, she opens with one of her own songs, called “SOON” Dedicated to Adrian her other half. A
nicely guitar picked song, with her French accent Claudine takes us to in to
her world of love and good times yet to come, everyone joins in with the
chorus. Her second song “THERE
WAS” a song she wrote about being in San Fransisco.

Dennis
in his role as Master of ceremonies treats us to some funny stories and jokes
Then he Introduces
Bill who sings an unaccompanied
song, “RUE THE DAY”
stamping his foot to keep time he sings us as tale about a man who rues the
day he got married and is left holding the baby. Song 2 is a self penned
number about the Fab club when it was at the Orsett Cock , a comic rendition
that gets every one laughing and joining in with the chorus, “at the Orsett Cock on Sunday”.

Dennis then
introduces our resident poet Liz M. A poem she wrote about being young in the
sixties, “DO YOU REMEMBER”
a trip down a memory lane filled with mods, rockers and hippies. Wow the
shock is I remember most of the things she mentions, all of sudden I feel
old, but all the reminiscing has put a big smile on face and that goes for
most of the audience to. Liz has a great way of presenting her poems and the
listener very soon becomes engrossed in her world and feeling very much part
of it. The next poem is about cooking in the Autumn months, I am starting to
feel peckish. She carries on with stories of story telling about Kings and
Dragon.

(ed.note) It was time
for Trevor to show off his excellent song-writing and singing skills… I
requested “spoons”, a
song he wrote thinking about his girlfriend Michele, whom he has a long
distance relationship with. Not an easy one but it is nice to see it inspires
some of us to write superb songs… His second song was equally catchy
“ALL LOVERS ARE YOUNG”.
There is no age for love basically. A well-knows tune for the listeners of
the FaB Show on Link FM. ( end of Ed. Note)
Our next performer
is Mark Reed with “Black Cat Prowls”,
mark sings a stories of feline scullduggery in the wee dark hours, great
song!
Track 2 is called
“No Way Back”. With
some nifty guitar work from Mark, I really like his style. It’s a real
catchy number,
with a nice bass line hook about moving
in to the future.

The last performer
before the break is Ron, Dennis makes overtures towards Ron’s guitar,
which is a really nice ornate jumbo six string. A great rendition of “conclusion” by the Zutons. His
next song is a favourite of mine a Hank Williams song “WILD SIDE OF LIFE”, every one
sings along and taps the tables stamps their feet and shakes shakers.
FANTASTIC!

Debbie opens the
Second half with a storie about prawns who want to be sharks. Great punch
line that has every one roaring with laughter.
Next Dennis
performs one of his own songs “BEFORE
ALL THE HOUSES CAME DOWN” A yesteryear tale of the East End of
London, witty, funny and catchy, a great combination. This song poses the
question, is progress always good,
and has a sting in
its tale.
Claudine is back on
the floor performing, a song about Dennis Holmes, he writes songs, performs
them and now he has one written about him. Dennis has actually
Written over 400
songs and Claudine mentions a few of them during the song.
Her next song is another
self penned song and one of my personal favourites,
“A FIGHT THAT ISN’T MINE”
Bill’s back
up on the floor and is singing a song accompanied by Dennis on the Guitar,
words by Bill to the tune of “HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN”.
I think it’s
called “a pub in Leigh on Sea”.
I have never heard Bill sing to music before, he does a great job. Mark Reed
joins in on with his guitar.
They finish to loud
applause.
He continues with,
a blues song,
which he reads out
as he has a little bit of a sore throat.

Ron is back with,
his guitar and Dennis is still eyeing it up. His first song is a country and
western number about travelling and moving on. Song 2 is
“BACK STREET AFFAIR” country and
western again
but Ron gives it a reggae feel, great
stuff.
Liz M, performs a
poem in French and translates for those of us who are not bilingual. And
follows it with a funny poem “CHILD
HOOD WORRIES”.
Mark Reed sings
another one of his own songs, an acoustic rock number, once again mark has
some great riffs in his song. Followed by “sunset vision”, a
club’s favourite if I go by the number of people singing along.
(ed. Note) It is
time for our able review writer to close the show with 2 of his best-loved
songs: “the sun shines over Romford” and “
Breathe”… a nice singalong moment to finish our afternoon. (end
of ed. Note)
