Club in the pub with the Phatt B’Stards

Well before we start, may I invite you all to my birthday bash next Sunday

at the FaB Club, bring any food you want (EVEN sausage rolls)…

First up are Nora and Mick, starting with two sing-a-long songs,

“The Hopping Song”, all together now with a Ti I O, Ti I E I O. Next comes a 70’s number “Modern Barley Blues”, of course I am not old enough to remember this, but sway away everyone.  A great start for the afternoon!

Secondly Sally is up, a song for her two sons, called “Mother Love”.  What a lovely voice, singing with passion about her sons becoming men.  Next comes “Be a Man”, faster this one, full of aggression. Just remember to take Sally as she comes and I am glad that we will.

Here comes Ben’s first time on stage at the FaB club, a young leopard cub going solo.  With some nifty guitar plucking, singing “1952 Vincent Black lightning” and for a first time not that nervous, well done young man!

Then along comes his brother James, taking Ben’s place by playing “All Along The Watch Tower”.  He was helped along by the audience, as again this was his first time up in front of us all, he done well and made us proud!

Taking his place on the stage, an old favourite Alan (sorry about the old that was Nora).  Plucking away like the old pro he is, testing his guitar, went straight into a ditty (without his guitar) about “Leave the Plumbing to Plumbers”, which got giggles all round, which reminds me to go to the ladies now!!!!  This was followed by a 1964 biking song, by a singer called Twinkle and is called “Terry” (a boyfriend who crashed his bike), toe tapping abounds.

Now for the main Act today the Phatt B’Stards

Geoff Higginsbottom and George Wilson aka Fredo and Juan Phatt-B’Stards they are not thin but they are legitimate, taking to the stage and we got some stripping to boot, man’s flesh on show!

“Couldn’t Have Come at a Better Time”, is the first of many brilliant songs, fast and furious, sends shivers down your spine.  These two are jokers of the pack and wear matching T-Shirts.

Then “The World Turned Upside Down”, after a bit of banter about a stuck thong, they got stuck in to learning some French (say no more) then the song another fast number, about Freemen coming to work not being slaves anymore in the year 1649.

Another song called “Angel of Mercy followed”, guitar plucking a plenty, this is a lovely song which needs a lot of swaying of the audience.  The B’Stards are brilliant and anyone who couldn’t get here missed a wonderful afternoon with the FaB club Family.

Moving on to “Blackleg Miner”, which is a folk song from Newcastle (yeah), plenty of joining in on this one.  I must say I have not laughed like this for a long time, nor do I think most of the audience, I would try to let you know all the jokes, but I was so busy laughing I forgot them.

“Beeswing” by Richard Thompson follows on; no I am not in love nor married though this song makes me want to be.

A favourite of mine next, House of the Rising Sun”, bit of the blues the only 5 chords they can play, also don’t forget to ask the questions? “Who’s a prat?” “I’m one!!!” “Where you going?” “I am going back to New Orleans” (get the gist) Sorry laughing again.

Theme tune comes now “We Ate All the pies”, pointing of fat or obese people allowed, mainly at the stage.

* * * * * * * * * * *

Bill followed on, singing with his usual vigour “the Goodbye Song”, then asking the audience to sing along with “Sexual Repression”, another saucy one from Bill.

A new man to the Fab Club, Mark, a FAB Club virgin, singing “Come Together”, his first time and he said he was nervous, you wouldn’t know it playing brilliantly.  Then we all had to Get our Motor’s reviving and head out onto the highway, may we be blessed with seeing another performance.

Next came Cathy and Joe, with a Buddy Holly Song, “Oh Boy”, toe tapping from the audience and singing along was called for.  Cathy is getting more confident, as the weeks go along and I hope she does a solo soon.  Then Joe on his lonesome. Dedicating it to the Phatt B’Stards, called “Big Fat Sexy Man”, our favourite…

Now for you, culture vultures, Liz and her poems.  A sad one to start off with,

“A Thousand Things to See Before You Die”, brings the mood lower.  One with which we should know “Oh My! Haven’t they Changed”, about the reunions you never even went to…

Something completely different now, John Stafford, who normally doesn’t do it standing up? After a false start, he begins “Worried Man”, will he make it to the end, don’t know if I will as my battery is going flat.

Be Afraid, very afraid now: here comes Tone Def Leopard, Sue on the Bongo’s with a hit from the 1970’s “Banks of the Ohio”, it’s difficult to know which one is suffering more for their art!!!

Well Trevor is suffering in the next song as he desperately needs the bathroom which is occupied by a teenager! All this, sang to the tune of “the lion sleeps tonight”… oh dear!... Well, the whole audience is singing along!...

Time to see our 2 lovely B’Stards back on stage for a rousing second half full of our favourite tunes… Bob Marley gets to visit Macclesfield, and Dire Strait gets a new life! Fantastic! Even Mick is dancing! We want more so we get and encore!

After that we have to wait for next week and my birthday party to find out who will be taking the stage at the FaB Club!
